We are aiming to make Prestatyn a Dementia Friendly community.
Friends Information Sessions are run by volunteer Dementia Friends Champions, who are trained and supported by Alzheimer’s Society.
Each Information Session lasts around one hour. You will learn more about dementia and how you can help to create friendly communities.
A Friend learns a little bit more about what it’s like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action – anyone of any age can be a Dementia Friend.
Whether you attend a face-to-face Friends Information Session or watch our online video. Friends is about learning more and the small ways you can help. From telling friends about the Friends sessions to visiting someone you know living with it, every action counts.
Alzheimer’s Society’s Friendly Communities programme focuses on improving inclusion and quality of life for people with dementia in a number of ways.
One of these ways is through the Friendly Communities recognition process, which encourages communities to sign up.
What is the Friendly Communities Recognition Process?
The recognition process enables communities to be publicly recognised for their work towards becoming dementia-friendly. The process asks communities to commit to delivering change and is structured around 2 key documents:
- The BSI Code of Practise for friendly communities and;
- The foundation criteria for friendly communities.
The Alzheimer’s Society recognise that Prestatyn has met the foundation criteria for the process.

As part of the friendly community we are encouraging large and small businesses, groups, and individuals to learn more about what it all means, every little step helps.
