More Information about us and the Alzheimer’s Society .
Prestatyn Dementia Friendly Community was created in May 2016. Our MP Dr James Davies a keen supporter of the Alzheimer’s Society was instrumental in starting the group.
The Community Interest Company Artisans Collective were approached to help facilitate the agenda, a task they were pleased to take on.
A steering group was formed with Local and national businesses, North Wales Police, Town Council, Health board and local community groups all represented.
We held our first Dementia Friends sessions in June and July 2016 and now have over 100 people that have attended. To help us work without the need for the Alzheimer’s Society to attend each time we now have at least 6 local dementia champions trained by the society.
In Mid July 2016 it was confirmed by the Alzheimer’s Society that Prestatyn has met the foundation criteria for the process.
By being part of the recognition process we agreed to commit to the following terms and conditions:
- meeting the foundation criteria for a dementia-friendly community that have been developed (please see the PAS1365: Code of Practice for Dementia Friendly Communities)
- completing an annual self-assessment of progress towards the criteria
- providing information on progress on a local webpage or site, (like this one)
- complying with the terms and conditions for use of the ‘working to become dementia friendly’ symbol
